The move was expected after Alford’s disappointing 2018."After fending off multiple potential replacements under Dan Quinn Adult Takkarist McKinley Jersey , Robert Alford finally saw the end of the time with the Falcons. Allen Strk looked in-depth at Alford about a week ago and concluded the Falcons would not bring him back on his current salary. Strk pointed out Alford’s stunning drop off from his career-best 2017 season where he allowed a low 80.7 quarterback rating in coverage. What about 2018?Not helping was Alford’s contract: he was out of guaranteed money. Alford was owed $8.5 million in base salary in his age-31 season with a cap hit of $9.1 million. That isn’t a huge number but the Falcons clearly did not expect Alford to rebound to 2017 levels. Additionally, Isaiah Oliver came along nicely in his rookie season and is a good scheme fit for Quinn’s defense. Oliver comes at the fraction of the price, and a free agent signing would almost certainly have a lower cap hit early in their contract. Alford was slated for another $8.5 million in base salary in 2010 with the same $9.1 million cap hit. With his cut, the Falcons save $7.9 million in cap space with $1.2 million in dead cap attributed to his remaining prorated signing bonus.Based on the numbers provided by Over The Cap the Falcons move from about $14.5 million in cap space to nearly $22.4 million. With a few potential cuts like Ryan Schraeder, Brandon Fusco, Brooks Reed, and maybe Mohamed Sanu Authentic Julio Jones Jersey , Atlanta can free up around another $16.6 million, and rescinding Vic Beasley’s fifth-year option frees up another $12.8 million. Using both post-June 1st designations would free up $3 to $4 million more if the Falcons want to spread out the dead cap.The Falcons may be on the lookout for another corner but expect Oliver to move to starter with Brian Poole or Damontae Kazee at nickel. They definitely have some more spending money with Alford gone. We may have an idea of what positions the Falcons won’t have to look for in free agency."WhiteFanposts Fanshots Library FalcFans Podcast on The FalcoholicContact The FalcoholicFalcons StoriesScheduleRosterStatsYahoo Falcons NewsYahoo Falcons Team PageYahoo Falcons ReportYahoo Falcons Depth ChartYahoo Falcons TransactionsYahoo Falcons PhotosOdds About Masthead Community Guidelines StubHub 鉁旻alcons may use compensatory picks on new blocking TE, returner New,30commentsWe may have an idea of what positions the Falcons won’t have to look for in free agency. ESTShareTweetShareShareFalcons may use compensatory picks on new blocking TE, returner Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY SportsThe Atlanta Falcons have a surplus of draft capital in this year’s round of picks, and we’ve got an early indicator of where those picks might go. ESPN’s Vaughn McClure reports that the team is considering using its fourth and fifth-round compensatory picks on two specific spots on the roster. This hints at two things. One, the team may not bring back Logan Paulsen if this is the case. The veteran filled in admirably as a blocker Authentic Calvin Ridley Jersey , occasional pass-catcher and mentor to Austin Hooper, but they may wish to go younger and a hair cheaper here (well, maybe by like $100,000). Two, with Justin Hardy perhaps out the door, the team is moving on at its kick returner spot and wants someone to man the job who can hold it down specifically. The team has one open spot for a receiver, assuming carrying six is in the cards Brett Favre Jersey 2019 , and this could be a hint the team doesn’t bring Hardy back. Part of me wants the team to angle to trade for more trench talent with one of those comp picks, but if the team has done its homework here, they may wish to infuse the roster with as much draft talent from this class as possible. That’s always the most cost-effective way to build a team, after all. So the plans slowly begin to reveal themselves for April. We’ll see what the team does to address these two spots here soon.
